Meet the StaffPastor: Dr. Gary Thompson Our new pastor, Dr. Gary Thompson, received his undergraduate degree from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi and a Master of Religion Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He did additional study at New Orleans Theological Seminary and Memphis Theological Seminary. He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in Leadership Development from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey.
Gary has served churches in rural, small town and urban areas. He has organized two very successful community organizations to help with human and spiritual needs with over eighty churches and other organizations currently involved. He has most recently formed an international mission organization called Second Mile Global Coalition (www.2mgc.org).
Gary enjoys traveling domestically and internationally, especially in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He also enjoys reading and history. He is most proud of his family: his wife, Robin; four children; and six grandchildren.
Youth Pastor: Morgan Spencer
Morgan Spencer has been the Youth Director at Minor Memorial UMC for seven years. He graduated from Horn Lake High School in 1997 and attended college at Delta State University where he met his wife Vicky. On December 15 they will have been married for eight years.
Morgan loves the time that he has served at Minor Memorial. He has directed many different events and ministries during his time here. Under his excellent leadership the youth group continues to grow in numbers and in their closeness to God. Morgan is the proud father of two twin girls born on February 21, 2009. Madelyn Leigh and Elizabeth Anne are doing very well and he enjoys being with them. He also loves sports and watching tv when he gets a chance. Music Director: Vicky Spencer
Secretary/Finance: Helen Miller
Helen Miller resides in Olive Branch with her husband Rich. She attend Maples Memorial UMC and has lived in DeSoto County for approximately 12 years. While family lives away they have become involved in their church family and also have a pet cat Shiloh. Helen enjoys going to the movies, reading, cross stitch and has been involved with Habitat for Humanity and the DeSoto Health & Wellness Center. Helen and Joann split their work week at church.
Secretary: Joann Freeman
Joann Freeman is married to Wayne and they make their home in Independence. They have two grown married sons who have provided them with four grandchildren (with a fifth due in June). Spending time with grandchildren is one of Joann & Wayne's favorite things to do.
She is a member of the Independence United Methodist Church where she teaches Sr. High Sunday School, sings in the choir and is Prayer Chain coordinator for the U.M.W.
