Our History

The history of Minor Memorial UMC...

Minor Memorial United Methodist Church had a very humble beginning. In 1889, a group of women in the community decided they needed a place to worship God. They cleaned an old unused saloon, located on the Southwest corner of Poplar Corner Road, moved in some homemade benches and organized a Sunday School.

Minor Memorial UMC began to grow and eventually built the church on Poplar Corner. But as the area grew so did the congregation and a need to build a larger church. The shovels broke ground on 10 acres of land on September 30, 1990 for our present church. The first service in the new church was held on June7, 1992. Since that date the church has continued to experience growth both physically and spiritually.

Sometime around June of 2006 we took bids to build a new Educational Wing and started construction and moved our youth and children's ministries sometime early of 2007. At this time we could move all our youth and children ministries into the new wing and give the old trailer over to the scouts. Almost immediately we filled the classrooms with the sound of children and youth.

Many of the newest members to join our congregation have children and we are challenged to move forward in providing the necessary ministry for the youth and children in our communities.

Let us not forget the importance of our senior members of our church for without their support over the years we would not be able to provide the facility we have today. That's why the family of God is so important. Everybody is part of that family.

Let us continue to build the Kingdom of God in our community.
